Reverend Richard Warner CSC


Rev. Richard V. Warner, CSC, is the Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross and oversees the international mission and operations. Father Warner graduated from Notre Dame in 1962, and obtained a licentiate degree in theology at Catholic University in Santiago, Chile, in 1966. He was ordained the same year. From 1967 to 1973 he taught English and theology at St. George’s College. In 1973 he became the provincial treasurer and a member of the Provincial Council for the Indiana Province of the Congregation. He was elected provincial superior in 1979, serving nine years in that office. Father Warner was Director of Campus Ministry at the University of Notre Dame for twenty-one years. For much of that time, he also served in a dual role as Presidential Counselor. Since 2004, he has served as a General Councilor. He is a Life Trustee of the University; Chair of the Board of Directors of the Center for the Homeless, South Bend; Chair of the Board of Directors of Memorial Hospital of South Bend; and Corporate Member of Holy Cross Family Ministries.
