GOYA, ARGENTINA-- Praying the Rosary for World Youth Day has reached to remote regions of Argentina where close to 30 people have gathered each Saturday since May at a wayside Marian shrine.

The Firm in the Faith with Mary campaign invites Catholics across the globe to pray the Rosary on Saturdays for World Youth Day, which will be held August 16 through 21 in Madrid, Spain. The initiative has united several countries in prayer for the fruits of the Holy Spirit on the youth gathering.

Two young people from Goya, a poorer Argentina city in the northeastern province of Corrientes, will make the pilgrimage to Madrid this August.

A radio broadcast of the Rosary reaches almost all of Corrientes each Saturday by way of the Schoenstatt Rosary Campaign of the Pilgrim Mother missionary group. The missionaries seek to use modern ways for evangelizing families and promoting Christian values. El Salvador

KNOCK, IRELAND—More than 4,000 people gathered at the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock, Ireland´s national shrine in County Mayo in June praying a Rosary among other things at the “All Ireland Family Rosary Day.”

People traveled from across Ireland to the annual event that honors Father Patrick Peyton, CSC, known as the “Rosary Priest” for his efforts to promote praying among families.

All in attendance prayed the Rosary for World Youth Day and were encouraged to join the Firm in the Faith with Mary campaign inviting Catholics across the globe to pray a Rosary on Saturday for the fruits of the Holy Spirit on WYD. International youth will make a pilgrimage to Madrid August 16 through 21 to meet with Pope Benedict XVI.

The day culminated an active season of youth retreats and family outreach at the Father Peyton Memorial Centre in Attymass, County Mayo.

The Rosary was led by a set of parents and their two sons. Prior to the Marian devotion, people attended an anointing of the sick service and Mass in the shrine’s main Basilica.

“The Irish have a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin,” said Father Steve Gibson, CSC. “… and the young people have their own special devotion to Our Lady as is exhibited here today.”

A youth choir formed of 10- to 12-year-olds led music between each decade of the Rosary.

Bishop Brendan Kelly of the Achonry Diocese presided over the event. Father Michael Fitzgerald of Cork preached a homily about the importance of the family Rosary.

KAMPALA, UGANDA—Efforts to pray the Rosary for World Youth Day have spread to Uganda, Africa where a group of young pilgrims will travel to Madrid for the international gathering with Pope Benedict XVI.

Father Fred Jenga, CSC, director of Holy Cross Family Ministries in East Africa, has worked with local Legionaries of Mary to promote Firm in the Faith with Mary, a campaign inviting Catholics across the globe to pray a Rosary on each Saturday leading up to World Youth Day.

Holy Cross groups in the area will soon gather to record videos of pilgrims praying the Rosary together.
