LA celebrates 231st birthday with Grand Procession


processionLos Angeles had a birthday party and thousands of the faithful were on hand to celebrate. The city marked its 231st anniversary on Sept. 4 with a Grand Marian Procession from La Placita Church to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Father Willy Raymond, CSC, National Director of Family Theater Productions, participated in the Grand Procession and Votive Mass for the 2012 Feast of Our Lady of The Angels. It commemorates the founding el Pueblo de Nuestra Seňora de Los Angeles – the city’s original name – on Sept. 4, 1781.

The second annual event was sponsored by The Queen of Angels Foundation and supported by several Catholic fraternal and chivalric service orders, including the Knights of processionColumbus and the Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

The Grand Procession and Votive Mass were presided over by Rev. Monsignor Joseph Brennan, Moderator of the Curia/Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, who also the homilist.

“It was a magnificent way to celebrate the anniversary of Los Angeles and to ask the Virgin’s help for all the people of the city,” Father Willy said.
