1/27/2012

Members of the Knights of Columbus, Supporters of Holy Cross Family Ministries, Stonehill College students and members of the community gathered at The Father Patrick Peyton Center on Sunday, January 22, to dedicate a Pro-Life memorial stone for the unborn. prolife

“The Father Peyton Center is a house of prayer and today we pray for the unborn and for those who would not be parents,” said Father John Phalen, CSC, president of Holy Cross Family Ministries, at the dedication.

“On this day, the 22nd of January, the Supreme Court made abortion legal in this country. Since then, millions who could have been born into this world lost their lives before having the opportunity to be born. Great suffering, remorse and regret have resulted, and we come to pray for a change of heart, not only for judges and doctors but also for all mothers and fathers who find themselves struggling in this situation.”

The tear-drop granite memorial stone, the idea of Past Grand Knight of the Easton Council Fred Kippenhan, was funded through donations by the Knights of Columbus of the area.

The memorial was blessed by Father Phalen, and the group was led in Rosary prayer by Fourth Degree Knight, Bob DiBona; Brian Gotsell, Grand Knight of the Father Alan Kraw Council of the Stonehill Knights of Columbus; also Anthony Ardizzone, a Stonehill College Knight of Columbus; Gerrie Saulnier, staff of Holy Cross Family Ministries; and Jean Arsenault, assistant director of the diocesan Pro-Life Apostolate.

The Knights’ honor guard, led by Sir Knight Chris Gilday, stood vigil during the ceremony. prolife

“We’re grateful for all those who joined us today, but want the community to know that we pray the Rosary at The Father Peyton Center every weekday morning at 9:00 am and Our Lady’s Rosary Group meets every Sunday at 5:10,” said the Mission Assistant and event coordinator for the dedication. “We would love for anyone in the area to join us; and, always, people can send us their petitions and we will pray for and with them.”

Following the Rosary, those in attendance gathered for refreshments as well as the screening of a half-hour drama entitled, Assumptions. This film, which depicts a mother facing a momentous decision regarding pro-life, was produced by Family Theater Productions of Hollywood, an affiliate of Holy Cross Family Ministries.

Also in attendance were: Father Hugh Cleary, CSC, the Director of Campus Ministry at Stonehill College and the former Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross; and Sir Knight Mike Hatch, Worthy Faithful Navigator of the Cardinal O’Connell Assembly. Easton Memorials created the monument.
