Uganda: October Celebrations

Mission staff in Fort Portal, worked hand-in-hand with primary school teachers in 17 schools to host the Rosary Rally entitled, “The First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation.” Children prepared songs, poems and dramas to reflect the theme. The day began with a procession through town led by the Engabo za Tooro band and the children sang praises for Mother Mary. A statue of Mary and banners opened the procession with the procession ending at St. Charles Lwanga Town parish where the day’s activities took place. After the praying of the Rosary and the celebration of the Mass, children heard several talks and presentations on The Annunciation and Mary’s model of faith for all of us. The nearly 450 children went home with certificates, t-shirts, prayer books and Rosaries to share with their families. Beads_12182014_Uganda Rosary Rally 250

Earlier in October, a 3-day event was held in Nairobi with nearly 400 participants, including both couples and single parents. The purpose of the event was to discuss and inform parents on topics all families struggle with, such as behavior management, conflict management, communication in marriage and the family, forgiveness and healing, and the role of media for the family. Experts on these topics presented relevant information to help build strong family foundations.

The 3-day event wasn’t all work. Entertainment and fun activities included a dance competition and entertaining discussion on ways to strengthen families. Beads_12182014_Nairobi Ladies 3 day event 250

The participants learned prayerful and fun ways to become … the family that prays together stays together.
