Angelus Student Film Festival Winning Filmmaker Prepares for Red Carpet

Luke Matheny, director of God of Love, was the recipient of the Patrick Peyton Award for Excellence at the Angelus Student Film Festival this past September. Matheny’s thesis film at New York University film program was nominated for an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film on January 25. Matheny’s Academy Award nomination for God of Love marks the third consecutive year for Angelus winners to be tapped for Oscars. Last year, Gregg Helvey, winner of the 2009 Angelus Triumph of the Spirit Award was nominated for a 2010 Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short Film for his film KAVI. In 2008, director Reto Caffi, whose film ON THE LINE won the Angelus Patrick Peyton Award for Excellence in Filmmaking, was also nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short.
