HCFM Team Participates in Outreach to Catholic Retailers

Catholic book and gift stores face the unique challenge of being a successful ministry and, at the same time, a successful business. The Catholic Marketing Network was founded over 16 years ago to support these retailers and become the liaison between Catholic retailers and manufacturers of Catholic goods.

Once again Holy Cross Family Ministries participated in the annual Catholic Marketing Network (CMN) Trade Show, Aug. 28 – 31 in Arlington, TX. As an exhibitor, our ministry offers a modest selection of faith-based products to retailers at discounted prices. Retailers resell the products in their store, sharing our mission with those in their community we might otherwise never meet face to face. In a sense, these Catholic retailers have become an extension of our ministry team. They are important to our success and we are grateful for their support.

But this exceptional event isn’t just about selling our faith-based products. The Holy Cross Family Ministry staff that attends participates in prayer, daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction and social events with attendees and exhibitors. The Chaplain of the Father Peyton Center, Father Leo Polselli, CSC, hosts Rosary each morning before the trade show begins, concelebrates Mass and hears confessions throughout the day. “We’ve created relationships with the store owners that go far beyond supplier and customer,” explains Susan Wallace, Director of External Relations for Holy Cross Family Ministries. “Hugs often accompany greetings and good-byes. Retailers will ask how Father Peyton’s Cause is going. They will ask for prayers for family and friends. They will share amazing stories of answered Rosary prayer. It’s spiritually energizing. These Catholic retailers recognize we are not simply another product supplier but rather a ministry, just like theirs.”

This year the Catholic Writers Conference and the Catholic New Media Conference also joined the event. Each group sponsored and hosted their own workshops and events at the location but all participants were welcome to join the CMN religious and social events and the trade show floor. Some members of the Holy Cross Family Ministries staff participated in the Catholic New Media Conference to assist our efforts of utilizing today’s technology to promote our mission. The enthusiasm of the three conferences taking place together was felt by everyone. Although the activities of each group differ, they all share the common ultimate goal of evangelizing the Catholic faith.
