Movie Night at Prayer & Pasta

PrayerandPastaIt was movie night at Prayer & Pasta in September! Following the delicious meal and 20 minutes of Prayers from the Tower of London by Thomas More himself {with the help of actor Andrew Dits}, we turned down the lights, passed around the popcorn and enjoyed “A Man for All Seasons.” This six-time Oscar-winning film is about one of the all-time heroes of religious liberty, Saint Thomas More. Paul Scofield is amazing in the acting tour de force as the English saint. In the midst of an election year, he is a good model for the responsible Christian as citizen. To set the tone, the program began with several prayers authored and prayed by Thomas More himself along with a dramatic reading of Saint Thomas More’s last letter to his beloved daughter Margaret, Meg. In this letter he explains to her the reasons for his decision not to violate his conscience because, “In the end, it is a question of love, Meg.” His love for God trumps all other claims upon his conscience including that of his good friend and Lord, King Henry VIII. All in all, a thoroughly moving, challenging and enriching evening!PrayerandPasta
