Update from Family Rosary – Philippines: Prison Inmates Pray the Rosary Simultaneously for World Peace

philippinesApril 15, Feast of the Divine Mercy, a devotion followed by over 100 million Catholics all over the world, was celebrated in a special way by the prison inmates of the Philippines by praying the Holy Rosary as part of their commitment to A Million Roses for the World (AMRoW) Prayer Campaign.

The National Bilibid Prison, home to almost 12,000 inmates serving life, double, or triple life sentences opened its gates and their hearts to the invitation of the organizers of AMRoW to lead the praying of the Rosary for peace not only in their hearts, in their homes, and for their country but for the whole world.

philippinesIt was heart-warming to note that the inmates have committed to the 200-day prayer campaign to a point where they have memorized the lyrics of the theme song as they sang together with Loudette Banson.

At 3:00 pm, the inmates led the Rosary and were joined by the Correctional Institute for Women and the inmates of the different penal colonies situated all over the country.

A Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Leopoldo Tumulak, Military Ordinariate of the Philippines, and newly appointed Chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care, and concelebrated by Msgr. Bobby Olaguer, Chaplain of the National Bilibid Prison, Fr. Roque D’Costa, CSC, the Family Rosary Crusade Executive Director, Fr. Thomas John, CSC, and Fr. Michael Anthony; preceded the praying of the Rosary.

philippinesMr. Rudy Diamante, Executive Secretary, Commission on Prison Pastoral Care, General Gaudencio Pangilinan, Director of the Bureau of Corrections and the Mary’s Way Foundation, Inc., took the lead and made the whole event possible.

Father Peyton’s vision of, “A World At Prayer Is A World At Peace,” was supported by this meaningful outreach in the Philippines. For more information on Family Rosary – Philippines
