Family Rosary Pilgrimage to Ireland

irelandOne must ask, was the Family Rosary Pilgrimage unforgettable because Notre Dame won the football game (50-10) or because the pilgrims visited the ancestral homeland of Ireland’s Favorite Son, Servant of God Father Patrick Peyton, CSC.? If you were to ask any of the 29 pilgrims that toured Ireland with Father John Phalen, CSC, President of Holy Cross Family Ministries, it would be obvious that the Father Peyton Centre Day of Recollection was the heart of the pilgrimage! Director Della Ginley and Chaplain Father Steve Gibson gave amazing presentations on Father Peyton’s roots at Attymass and on his Marian spirituality.

irelandOn August 30, the pilgrims traveled to Dublin where they settled in, did some brief touring and then attended the Notre Dame vs. Navy Football game.

While on pilgrimage, they visited many sites throughout Ireland, including a cruise on Lough Corrib, a healing service at St. Brigid’s Well, visits to Connemara, Kylemore Abbey, Croagh Patrick, the Village at Cong, and the Cliffs of Moher, as well as a visit to The Father Peyton Memorial Centre in Attymass. The energetic group celebrated Mass daily and prayed the Rosary for a real experience of Pilgrimage.

“The time together was such a blessing. I think all the pilgrims would agree, it was a rich opportunity for both faith-filled experiences as well as fun camaraderie,” said Father John. “We visited beautiful places of worship and spent time with locals in the pubs, shows and shops.”
