Liturgy Held to Celebrate Possible Medical Miracle in cause for Sainthood of Father Patrick Peyton, CSC

On June 28, His Excellency, Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop of Albany, presided at the closing liturgy for the Tribunal formed for the review of a possible medical miracle attributed to the intercession of Sainthood Candidate, Father Patrick Peyton, CSC.

In attendance was the Postulator, Dr. Andrea Ambrosi, from Rome; Father Thomas Looney, CSC, Provincial of the Eastern Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross; Father Hugh Cleary, CSC, former Superior General for the Congregation; Father John Phalen, CSC, President of Holy Cross Family Ministries; several other Holy Cross priests and brothers; and many supporters of Father Peyton through the years.

With nearly 180 in attendance at the Mass and reception, there were many stories being shared by people who worked with Father Peyton particularly stories of when they first met him.

Father Thomas Looney, CSC, Provincial of the Eastern Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross shared the following comment when he recounted the day with his Holy Cross conferes: "Bishop Hubbard spoke with deep passion of the Church's need of a saint to intercede for the needs of families, suggesting, of course, that Father Peyton's virtuous life, love for his own family and passion for family prayer makes him the perfect candidate." He urged all present to pray for the success of his cause.

Father John Phalen, CSC, the president of Holy Cross Family Ministries, shared the following comment in his homily: "I remember being asked by Father Peyton if I would continue his work if the Congregation ever asked me to. 'Of course, Father Peyton,' I answered, in the same manner that most people answered Father Peyton's requests, affirmatively, both honored and excited about the possibility. I was later brought down to earth when the other seminarians explained that they all had been asked the same question too. Mary worked out a transition through forward-looking Provincials and the work is solidly in the hands of Holy Cross today, renewing interest in the Rosary both among its own membership and among all God's people around the world."
