Arizona Rosary Celebration Held October 15 and 16 in Tucson and Phoenix

The 36th annual Arizona Rosary Celebration took place on Sunday October 16th, 2011 in the Phoenix Civic Center, where 6,000 people from the diocese of Phoenix gathered to pray the Rosary and ask for the assistance of Our Lady of Guadalupe to intercede for them with their many intentions. Indigenous groups, called Matachines, came into the arena singing, dancing, wearing their native attire and chanting praises to God. The ceremony opened with a procession of parishes and groups honoring the presence of our Blessed Mother, Mary. Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted officiated at the event. Rev. John Phalen, CSC, gave the keynote address. The Luminous Mysteries were prayed led by priests, religious and lay people from the diocese. Members of the Knight of Columbus 4th degree were the honor guards. The event concluded with Benediction. Holy Cross Family Ministries conducted a book signing for Father John Phalen’s new book, Living the Rosary.

On Saturday October 15th the Diocese of Tucson, Arizona, held their very first Rosary Celebration at the Cathedral. More than a thousand people gathered at the cathedral to join Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas, Bishop of Tucson, in honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe and praying for her intercession with their intentions. Fr. John Phalen, CSC, was the keynote speaker.
