Closing Rites of Philippine Rogatory Trial held for the Cause of Beatification of Father Patrick Peyton, CSC

December 21, 2006

Cardinal RosalesNearly one thousand friends and supporters of Servant of God Patrick Peyton, CSC, attended the closing of the Rogatory Tribunal on November 24, 2006, at the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila, the Philippines.

His Eminence Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, led the celebration of the Eucharist and the Closing Rites.

During his homily, Cardinal Rosales spoke on Mary and the Rosary and how important the devotion has always been to the Filipinos. He praised Father Peyton for his commitment to spread the family Rosary all over the world, saying, “Perhaps in modern times after Saint Dominick and Catherine of Siena, there is Father Patrick Peyton who made the Rosary his apostolate. He motivated people to make the Rosary a part of their lives.”

The concelebrated Mass was attended by witnesses who were sworn in by the Tribunal, Father Peyton's friends and supporters, Family Rosary Crusade board members, Family Rosary Crusade units, Father Peyton Guild Chapters, and students from different schools supporting the Cause.

Witnesses carry boxesMrs. Mary Gomez, Mr. Guillermo Soliven, Ms. Benny Balangue, Mrs. Charito Melchor, Mr. Conrado Diaz, and Mrs. Letty Ybiernas processed down the aisle with the original dossiers and the two copies and presented the boxes to Cardinal Rosales, Msgr. Geronimo Reyes, Judge Delegate, and the rest of the Tribunal members, as well as the assembly who came to witness the ceremony.

Highlighting the ceremony was the closing rite wherein the Vice Postulator for the Philippines, Pie Mabanta-Fenomeno, explained to the public the significance of the occasion as it marks the end of the first of many steps - but an important step nonetheless. She thanked the Archdiocese and Metropolitan Tribunal on behalf of Dr. Ambrosi and the Family Rosary Crusade and emphasized to the rest of those present that the work is far from over. “The Family Rosary Crusade Units, Father Peyton Guild, and supporters need to sustain the interest for the Cause, spread the life and work of the Servant of God, and continue the apostolate for family prayer,” Ms. Mabanta-Fenomeno said. She then presented the testimonies to the Tribunal through selected witnesses who were closest to Father Peyton.

The Tribunal signed and sealed the Last Session documents, after which the Notary and the Vice Postulator placed the signed documents in the respective boxes and sealed them in front of the public.

The Cardinal then announced the Diocesan Inquiry in the Philippines as officially closed.
