Fr. Patrick Peyton and Antonio Infante
"Great advances have been made but the end is still not in sight. There is a world to win. Yet even when that world is won and the Family Rosary Crusade is finished, the Story of the Family Rosary will go on. For it is a living story -- a story of the prayer of a living family which will worship God and honour Mary for all eternity."
Father Patrick Peyton

Exploring Traditions of Faith on Holy Week

March 19, 2008

Family Rosary International: Philippines

(FRC News Manila - 19 March 2008) - Servant of God, Rev. Fr. Patrick Peyton, CSC's Family Rosary Crusade is once again dishing out an all new programming line-up for this year's commemoration of the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ with its newest production of "Panata with Fr. Erick Santos," that will air on three days on the Associated Broadcasting Company from Holy Thursday to Black Saturday.

"Panata," or the traditions practiced by Filipinos to demonstrate their solidarity with Christ's sacrifice to save mankind from sin during these times will be the main theme of this year's FRC Holy Week presentation. Rev. Fr. Erick Santos, Parish Priest of the Santo Nino de Tondo in the City of Manila, with the tireless efforts of the people of Tondo district helped produce this presentation.

Tondo, one of the largest districts in the City of Manila is home to a melting pot of traditions and cultural backgrounds. The district is home to close to a quarter million people who came from various points all over the regions of the Philippines who migrated into the city for better opportunities. Tondo's diverse residents and their respective regional cultures formed one of the most colorful and devoted traditions that honor the passion of Christ. Tondo is also a hub for various organizations who have demonstrated without failure their faith and devotion to the Black Nazarene, the Rosary & the Blessed Mother and to its patron, the Child Jesus.

Fr. Erick Santos, one of the more charismatic preachers of this generation takes viewers to take a glimpse of what happens at his parish during Holy Week. Fr. Erick or "Paring Erick" to most of his parishioners will also explain the stories behind the "panata" followed by the people of Tondo. Fr. Erick is also a pure-bred resident of Tondo who grew up living with the various Catholic traditions practiced in the district. Fr. Erick is perhaps the best resource, the person to explain these traditions or "panatas."

"Panata," gives viewers a quick experience, a picture of how the people of Tondo take seriously in the struggle for salvation and the celebration of Christ's resurrection. This year's program, produced by the Family Rosary Crusade was inspired by the devotion of the people of Tondo.

"Panata with Fr. Erick Santos," is also a light material for those wanting an enriching television retreat and reflection - ideal for those who prefers to stay home and contemplate during this season in the company of their love ones. The program was produced keeping in mind the need to freshen up the tired and weary spirits of the public. The program also features a number of music videos that will nourish the lonely spirit.

The presentation airs one hour a day, at 4:00PM on Holy Thursday, 11:00AM on Good Friday, as a pre-programming for the traditional Seven Last Words, and at 4:00PM on Black Saturday on the Associated Broadcasting Company Channel 5 in Metro Manila and via satellite across the Philippines and on cable television.  (DeanMB)
