Sstudents, families can make a virtual pilgrimage
December 8, 2009
"Family Rosary Pilgrimage: Around the World with Mary" will be held 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Dec. 8-11 in the gymnasium of Rancho San Antonio Boys Home, 21000 Plummer St., Chatsworth. Thus, it begins on the feast of the Immaculate Conception and leads up to the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12. The event is open to all throughout the Los Angeles Archdiocese and neighboring dioceses.Several shrines of church-approved Marian apparitions will be represented. Among those to be displayed are: Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico; Our Lady of Lourdes, France; and Our Lady of Fatima, Portugal. The student pilgrims will be issued a "passport," and they will get it stamped as they visit each "shrine," where they will hear timely messages of the Blessed Mother. There will be oral and audio-visual presentations as an area of the gym will be set up as a theater.
There will also be a display of historical and unique Rosaries, an experience of the life of Christ from the 20 Mysteries of the Rosary and exhibits on the history of the Rosary and on the Rosary's major promoters.
The event is in observance of the year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the founder of Holy Cross Family Ministries, the "Rosary priest" and Catholic media pioneer and now sainthood candidate Servant of God Father Patrick Peyton, CSC.
"This virtual Family Rosary Pilgrimage is being offered to encourage schoolchildren to make the Rosary a part of their prayer lives and to inspire families to pray the family Rosary daily while meditating on the Mysteries so as to conform their lives to Christ's," said Holy Cross Father John Phalen, President of Holy Cross Family Ministries. "We also want the schoolchildren to understand the urgent messages of Mary through some of her apparitions and to embrace our Blessed Mother as their own, since she is our most powerful link to her Son."
