The Power of Intercessory Prayer

Intercessory prayer is a powerful tool that holds a significant role for the Church in a virtuous and holy person’s candidacy for sainthood. The Church canonizes holy people not for their sakes, but to present them to the faithful as models of the Christian life and as powerful intercessors. In their triumph over the challenges of life, through faith, we are inspired to trust God more fully and to serve others more generously.

If you cannot be with us on June 1st, here are some practical ways to engage in intercessory prayer by:

  • asking Venerable Patrick Peyton for a special request for the needs of your family
  • requesting Venerable Patrick Peyton’s intercession for a family you know and their needs
  • bringing the needs of all families to Venerable Patrick Peyton for his intercession, as one living in friendship with God

Father Peyton’s Story

Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C. was born in 1909 in Ireland to
a devout Catholic Family. Praying the Rosary together each night was a routine in the Peyton household and laid a strong foundation for Father Peyton’s faith, which he would need when he joined the Congregation of Holy Cross as a priest.

Father Peyton’s Cause for Sainthood

Father Peyton’s messages that “The Family That Prays Together Stays Together” and “A World at Prayer is a World at Peace” are still well known around the world. His Cause for Sainthood was officially opened in 2001 and he is currently named Venerable.

Venerable Patrick Peyton, pray for us!

Prayer for the Beatification of Venerable Patrick Peyton

Dear Jesus, Father Peyton devoted his priestly life to strengthening the families of the world by calling them to pray together every day, especially the Rosary. His message is as important for us now as it was during his life on earth. We beg You, therefore, to hasten the day of his Beatification, so that Your faithful people everywhere will remember his message that “The family that prays together stays together,” will imitate him in his devotion to Your Mother and ours, and will be inspired by his holy life to draw ever closer to You with childlike confidence and love. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession for Families

O Jesus, on the Cross, You gave us Mary as our Mother, to whom Father Patrick Peyton grew close. Through his praying the Rosary and devotion to the Blessed Mother, was inspired by the Holy Spirit to proclaim an important message about the power of family prayer. He believed and preached that “The family that prays together stays together.”

Through the prayers of Mary and Father Peyton for us and the needs of all families, we ask for this favor:

  • for our family...
  • for a family we know...
  • for families in need...

May our praying, together, lead us closer to You and be a way for us to become more united as a family to share Your love with everyone we meet. Amen.
